Cute Anime Nurse-- Miss Nurse!

Miss Nurse by ~cheshirescribbles on deviantART

I was idly surfing the internet, looking for pictures of anime nurses, when a search result brought me to deviantART. I am not in any way artistic but I was amazed at the site's rather large collection of hardcore artsy stuff.

And then I found this image of a doe-eyed nurse with gorgeous hair flowing in tresses. I was like...Ack! So cute! I want to take Miss Nurse home including her pink-and-white uniform, bag, and dainty nurse's cap. Oooohhh...if only my nursing uniform when I was a student was this cute. Major LOL.

I don't watch anime nor do I read manga but I really, really like looking at images of anime and manga characters especially if they are, well, nurses. I think my liking for cutesy images and drawings like anime nurses is largely influenced by the popularity of Sanrio characters when I was growing up. Aaah..to miss things kawaii.

Actually, this is my second blog post about anime nurses. I blogged about Mai and Sayuri of Kanon (both are not nurses in the anime but a fan drew them wearing nurses' uniforms) a couple of months ago.

By the way, the creator of Miss Nurse, a female artist from Canada, calls herself ~cheshirescribbles. Click on the link to know more about her and her work.

Ram Sagad is Pinoy Fear Factor's 2nd Eliminado

Because Elmer, Jommy, Jose, and Ram were the poor performers in the second challenge of Pinoy Fear Factor's Segunda Ronda de Eliminacion (Elimination Round 2), they competed in the last challenge of the second elimination round.

If the second challenge, Cerebros y Ojos de Oveja (Sheep's Brains and Eyes), was a gut-wrenching one, the third stunt was physically demanding. The stunt, aptly called Acrobacias en Helicóptero (Acrobatics on a Helicopter), required the participantes to hang on to a trapeze dangling from a moving helicopter. It was obviously a painful task because they were going against the pull of gravity as they held on to the trapeze with their bare hands.

I thought that Elmer will be sent home because he was not as well-built as Jommy, Jose, and Ram Sagad who are Pump Squad members. Also, he was quite sick and is generally regarded as the weakest Pinoy Fear Factor participante in this challenge considering that he was almost eliminated in the first round. And so I was quite surprised when I saw how easily Ram was thrown off into the water and it became clear that Elmer, the veterinarian from Pampanga, is not the next participante to be eliminated from Pinoy Fear Factor.

Although I was rooting for Elmer Felix in this challenge, I didn't want Ram Sagad to be eliminated. Ram Sagad seemed decent and a strong contender to me. If I were to pick the second Pinoy Fear Factor participante to be eliminated, I'll choose Jommy without batting an eyelash. The guy is just too loud and arrogant that I'd love to see him eat dust.

My take on Pinoy Fear Factor's Acrobacias en Helicóptero stunt:

This Pinoy Fear Factor stunt is definitely a Fear Factor Extreme material. My eyes were glued to the TV set the moment Elmer grabbed the trapeze because it seemed he was really hanging on to dear life. And when he was crying out in pain, I was dumbfounded. I thought he incurred spinal injury. Really scary.

Pinoy Fear Factor Elimination Round 2

I have been busy with my personal affairs but I was able to enjoy Pinoy Fear Factor these last two days. And I say that the stunts are becoming really challenging. For instance, the 1st stunt for the second elimination round- Coglarse Como Tarzan- required the participantes to, yes, swing like Tarzan. The participantes had to move from one platform to another but in order to do that, they had to straddle 8 ropes which are suspended 15 meters above the ground.

Marion and Manuel finished the stunt in less than a minute. Phoem and LJ did not finish the challenge but are considered good performers as they were able to straddle 4 and 7 ropes, respectively. The worst performer for this Pinoy Fear Factor stunt, however, is Jommy. And as a consequence, he had to dance (in the nude, no less!) before his fellow Pinoy Fear Factor participantes (lol!).

My take on Pinoy Fear Factor's Coglarse Como Tarzan stunt:

Really attention-grabbing. I never thought that Manuel, a businessman from Cabanatuan City, will outperform the rest of the participantes in this challenge.

Also, I find the love angle between LJ and Maxi (an Argentine Production Assistant) really amusing. That tough chick LJ looks like she is really smitten with Maxi. And Ryan Agoncillo is even helping in adding fuel to the slow-burning fire. Let's see if something comes out of it. Tee-hee!

Pinoy Fear Factor's Gail Nicolas Eliminated

The last time I watched Pinoy Fear Factor, the 11 participantes (Phoemela was exempt as she won in the rotating barrel challenge) were introduced to the second stunt called the Ojos De Vaca En Congrejos. Each of the participantes were asked to roll a die. When the die roll produces an eye, the participantes had to fish 5 cow's eyes from a box full of live crablets. When a crablet turns up when they roll the die, they have to transfer 5 crablets from one container to another. The first participantes who took the challenge did well albeit they might have incurred lacerations from the crablets' claws.

I don't know what happened during Thursday night's episode because I wasn't able to watch Pinoy Fear Factor but it seems that the bottom three participantes in the Ojos De Vaca En Congrejos challenge are Elmer, Gail, and Marion. As a result, the three were asked to participate in the third round of eliminations to determine which participante will be the first to be sent home to the Philippines.

The three worst-performing participantes were tasked to rescue Mariana (a doll) from a sinking automobile (setting: a large pool). The thing is, the car has to be 5 meters underwater before the participantes can start the "rescue operations". And so, to cut it short, Gail Nicolas lost to Elmer and Marion, thus, off to the Philippines she goes.

My take on tonight's episode:

Tonight's Pinoy Fear Factor episode was really boring. But I feel sorry for Gail, though. It is too early to play favorites but I would've wanted her to stay longer.

Khash Persian Kabab Resto Bar

Early this week, I was invited to join Blogie, Lyle, Chatee, Andrew, and Jim on a food trip at Khash Persian Kabab Resto Bar. And since I have acquired a liking for shawarma and kabab over the years, I readily said yes. So last night, Lyle and I met the group for dinner at Khash and here's my take on my dining experience:

The moment I arrived at
Khash, I immediately noticed its spacious, brightly-lit interiors. Hanging from the walls are Persian paintings and tapestries; traditional Persian decor like Persian rugs, cushions, and shisha pipes give the place an authentic, Persian vibe.

The food at Khash was absolutely delicious. For starters, we were given soup, pita bread, torshi, and hummus. The soup (I don't know what it's called but it had rice in it) was appetizing and it went well with the pita bread and hummus. The hummus (Php85)-- an appetizer and dip made of mashed chickpeas and flavored with garlic, tahini sauce, and olive oil-- was just as good. Spread over pita bread, it reminded me of mashed potatoes sans the gravy. The torshi (PhP25), which is a traditional Persian appetizer of pickled vegetables, is surprisingly tangy, spicy, and yummy!

For the main course, I had Beryani rice (Php199) which I shared with Lyle and the rest of the group. Khash's Beryani rice is rightfully the highlight of my meal. Imagine a very large serving of sticky rice heavily flavored with aromatic spices and topped with tender pieces of meat! An absolute must-have!

I also ordered Abgosht (php90) and Lamb Beryan (Php100) . Both dishes are quite delicious especially when eaten with pita bread. For drinks, I had Doogh(Php50) which is a drink made of diluted yoghurt and because I had a very large meal, I had vanilla-flavored coffee after dinner (thanks, Chat!).

For those who want to sample the exotic taste of authentic Persian cuisine, Khash Persian Kabab Resto Bar serves delicious food at reasonable prices. And if you need any more convincing, check out the pictures below:

Plurk Down, Hoomans Desolate

I tried to open my PLURK page and what displays is a notice (see image above) saying that PLURK is under routine maintenance for under 10 minutes. What are we hoomans going to do the whole time PLURK is not operational?

Background song (Plurk Creaures Singing): "We are the world, we are plurk creatures, we are the ones who make a brighter day, for all the hoomans...."

Tee-hee!:-P

Pinoy Fear Factor

And just when I thought I won't find enough reason to use the TV set in my room again, Lyle reminded me that Pinoy Fear Factor's pilot episode was aired yesterday, November 10, 2008.

Shucks, I thought. I wanted to watch Pinoy Fear Factor in its entirety, the primer and the pilot episode included, as I know Ryan Agoncillo will be hosting this reality TV show. Ryan Agoncillo, in my opinion, is a class act as a host as he delivers his lines with enviable spontaneity. But unfortunately, I got so precoccupied with blogging the past few days that I forgot about Pinoy Fear Factor entirely.

And so tonight was my first time to watch Pinoy Fear Factor. I am familiar with 2 out of the 12 participantes: Phoemela Barranda and LJ Moreno. The rest, well, I still have to find out more about them in the future episodes. Sure, basing on what has been written about them, they all have their own personal stories to tell but if I will be watching Pinoy Fear Factor for the thrill of it, I shouldn't be concerned about the sappy stuff.

For tonight's challenge, the 12 participantes of Pinoy Fear Factor were brought to Puerto de Olivos in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The participantes were tasked to pick up yellow flags as they crossed a rotating barrel suspended 5 meters above a river. The participantes did not fare too well in the stunt and it was model/television host Phoemela Barranda who picked up the most number of flags. How many? Two, if I'm not mistaken.

My take on tonight's episode:

How the scantily-clad participantes of Pinoy Fear Factor fared in the rotating barrel challenge was disappointing but tonight's episode was fun with all the heckling.

Picobello Ristorante Italiano

Last week, Davao City's food blogger extraordinaire, Blogie Robillo, gave me a gift certificate from Picobello Ristorante Italiano. The food enthusiast (read as: mahilig kumain) that I am, I was all smiles as I profusely thanked Blogie for his generosity and immediately thought of telling my constant companion, Lyle, of the good news. I have been to Picobello a couple of times before and although I am more used to pizza and pasta served at food chains like Greenwhich and Pizza Hut, I always welcome yet another chance to experience Picobello's authentic Italian cooking.

And so yesterday, November 6, was the day when Lyle and I decided to have dinner at Picobello. We met at SM City Davao to purchase supplies we needed at our respective households and at 6:00 p.m., we headed off to Gaisiano South Citimall where the restaurant is located.

When we arrived at the restaurant, only two tables were occupied. Perfect, I thought. We were just in time to avoid the restaurant's peak hours as it is always packed between 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. owing to its very popular long-running buy-1-take-1 on pizza promo.

It didn't take long for us to be seated and be ably guided through the menu by a very courteous waiter, Ricky. And after asking about the restaurant's bestsellers, Lyle and I decided to order the soup of the day, Con Salsiccie pizza, Canneloni, Spaghetti Alla Marinara, and diet soda.

For starters, we were served whole grain bread (accompanied by a dip which is actually olive oil-and-balsamic vinegar dip according to Chatee and Picobello's Operations Manager, Marlon Navarro) and the soup of the day. The chicken soup was tasty and perfectly went well with the bread.

And then came the best part of our meal...

The pasta dish which I ordered, Canneloni (PhP185), came as a surprise. I was expecting medium-sized canneloni in classic tomato sauce so imagine my delight when I saw two large, perfectly-baked crepe-style pasta tubes laid over rich tomato sauce, filled with vegetables and ground meat, and topped with Parmesan cheese and Bechamel sauce. Absolutely yummy!

The Spaghetti Alla Marinara (PhP220), which I ordered for Lyle, was also delicious. It is a seafood-based pasta dish in tomato sauce and flavored by an assortment of herbs and spices. The serving is large enough for two so I ended up having half of it as Lyle was so busy loading up on pizza.

The pizza we ordered, Con Salsiccie (PhP270), is as expected, hand-tossed and baked to perfection in the restaurant's brick oven. Con Salsiccie is a sure winner among many of Picobello’s loyal patrons as it is topped with Mozzarella cheese, Italian sausage, pepperoni, and salami. I think this pretty much explains why Lyle only let me eat two slices of the pizza being the self-confessed pizza lover that he is.

Overall, dinner at Picobello Ristorante Italiano was a positive experience for us. And although main food selections generally fall within a Php180- PhP300 price range (we exceeded the GC's limit by a couple of hundred bucks..hehe), the combination of delicious food and good service is more than enough reason for me to dine there again.

Piccobelo Ristorante Italiano is conveniently located at the 5th Floor of Gaisano South Citimall, Duterte St., Davao City.

Davao City's Canteen: The Hauz of Paksiw na Buntot ng Tuna

Just when I was hell-bent on shedding excess poundage before the Christmas season officially starts, I made the "mistake" of having dinner with Lyle and Blogie at Canteen, Hauz of Paksiw na Buntot ng Tuna, which is located at Pryce Business Park, J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City.

For dinner, I had tenderloin tips, paksiw na buntot ng tuna, sari-sari, and 2 cups of rice. It wasn't my intention to eat that much as I remember telling myself to eat healthily as soon as I woke up this morning. But the paksiw na buntot ng tuna tasted so good- stimulating my already big appetite- causing this morning's promise to be forgotten throughout dinner.

And so, this is where this entry ends as I have decided to make it really short. Not because I am tired or there is nothing much to blog about. But because I really should stop thinking about Canteen's paksiw na buntot ng tuna now lest I stimulate my appetite again and end up raiding the refrigerator.

For pics of some of Canteen, Hauz of Paksiw na Buntot na Tuna's food offerings, check out the slideshow below.

www.nurseincyberspace.com

Finally, I bought www.nurseincyberspace.com through Lyle's assistance. This is in preparation for Nurse In Cyberspace's much-delayed migration to WordPress. I must say reciting my personal blog's previous URL to others (esp. non-bloggers) has become quite bothersome. It takes forever for them to remember it. Hence, this very welcome change.

P.S.

I am spending my day updating my blogs. Although still tired from my trip to ComVal Province yesterday, I had the energy to down half a liter of Coke. And it is not even Coke Zero! Sheesh, why the hell did I do that?
