Teens in Trouble

We often hear a lot about alcoholism in adults and the adverse effects that drinking has on the adult human body. Some of us may be suffering from alcoholism or at the very least, we've had a night where we drank one drink too many, rendering us a bit hung over the following day. Unfortunately, the plague that is drinking and alcoholism does not skip any age bracket. More and more information is surfacing about teenage drinking and how just how surprisingly and unfortunately popular teenage alcoholism is among our nation's youth.

We're not just talking about those kids sneaking drinks when they are sixteen and seventeen, however. Some of our kids are full fledged alcoholics by the age of thirteen. Some people will deny this as a possibility, but it is this denial that is allowing this underage statics to grow at such a rapid rate every month and every year. Teenage drinking stems from many social and domestic reasons and it is through thorough investigation, will we be able to find how to put a halt to it.

One of the saddest things about teenage alcoholism is that is can affect the teenage body much more aversely, quickly than in an adult. While teenagers may be alcoholics, their alcoholism attributes to just part of their spiraling - alcohol poisoning is actually more prevalent in teens and young people than in adults. Places like Valleyhope alcohol treatment centers offer support and salvation for young alcoholics but this is just one step in many that must be taken to save our youth.

Based on the information collected, here are a couple of the most prominent reasons that teenagers are drinking the way they are today. Maybe with this understanding there will be better steps taken to protect and help them:

Experimentation

Sometimes for no reason other than experimentation, teenagers are engaging in drinking and binge drinking. There are elements of peer pressure existing of course, but there are some for whom drinking is considered a rite of passage from adolescence to adulthood except it goes too far. While initially the attempts are drinking may be unsuccessful, teenagers are experimenting with different types and strengths of alcohol in an attempt to assert their curiosities about the practice. Unfortunately, the effects that alcohol produces on the human body end up being very addictive to their susceptible teenage selves and they are often becoming addicted without even knowing how or when. Usually the first place a kid tries alcohol is at home or in a domestic setting. Slowly but surely the drinking moves into a more social strata and while alcohol cannot legally be sold to children, some profit hungry merchants neglect the laws and limitations put in place to protect children from themselves.

Self-medication

For many reasons, teenagers do not often seek the help or counsel of adults when they are in trouble. Specifically with issues stemming from poor or abusive interactions with their peers, teens seek to deal with their emotions on their own. Some delve into healthy past times or use productive outlets for their emotions or to help cope with their feelings. Sadly, others try to self medicate through the use of drugs, alcohol and promiscuity.
